Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome corona virus . The disease was first identified in 2019 in Wuhan, Central China, and has since spread globally, resulting in the 2019–20 corona-virus pandemic.
At the end of December 2019, Chinese public health authorities reported several cases of acute respiratory syndrome in Wuhan City, Hubei province, China. Chinese scientists soon identified a novel corona virus as the main causative agent. The disease is now referred to as corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19), and the causative virus is called severe acute respiratory syndrome corona virus . It is a new strain of corona virus that has not been previously identified in humans.
Symptoms of corona virus.
- A corona virus is a type of common virus that can infect your nose, sinuses, or upper throat.
- They cause symptoms similar to upper-respiratory infection, including runny nose, coughing, sore throat, and sometimes a fever.
- In most cases, you won't know whether you have a corona virus or a different cold-causing virus, such as rhinovirus.
- But if a corona virus infection spreads to the lower respiratory tract, it can cause pneumonia.
Precautions to be taken against COVID-19
There is no vaccine for corona virus.
- To help prevent corona virus infection, do the same things you do to avoid the common cold.
- Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water or with an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
- Keep your hands and fingers away from your eyes, nose, and mouth.
- Avoid close contact with people who are infected.
