Mission to Mars: Mangalyaan

      Mission to Mars: Mangalyaan

November 5,2013 was a landmark day in the History of ISRO(Indian Space Research Organization).
When India was successfully able to launch India's first interplanetary spacecraft from the Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota,Andhra Pradesh.

India became the first country in Asia to Successfully send a spacecraft into Martian orbit and being the only country to be successful in her first attempt.

Popularly known as Mangalyaan,MOM(Mars orbiter mission),is an unmanned interplanetary mission, designed to orbit Mars. Mangalyaan has proved to be a milestone in Indian space programme ISRO has developed it in a record 15 months,it is the shortest period of an interplanetary

space mission.

The cost on this project was nearly US $74 million, this is also the record for the lowest for any interplanetary mission.MOM's(Mars orbiter mission) one of the key objectives was to design and manage the interplanetary travel. The scientific objective of the physical features of Mars and also study its atmosphere.

The scientist were interested in the methane levels in Martian atmosphere to explore the possibilities of life on Mars.

For this purpose-five instruments have been built into the spacecraft, they are:

On September 24,2014 covering after three hundred days of deep space journey,Mangalyaan entered the orbit of Mars.

The orbiter traveled 780,00,000 km in three phases to enter the Martian orbit.

The initial mission for the Mangalyaan was to orbit Mars for a six month period in order to explore Mars ISRO has predicted that Mangalyaan can orbit Mars for years with its left over fuel.

In May 2015,the USA's National Space Society awarded the Space Pioneer Award to ISRO for its successful mission to Mars.In 2009,ISRO had received a similar award from the National Space Society for the success of its lunar probe Chandrayaan-1.

Due to the presence of Liquid water,Methane gas and Organic molecules resulted that the support of life on Mars.

Scientist found that on the Mars poles the ice crystals are present which proves the presence of Liquid water on the poles.
Scientist also found Methane gas in the atmosphere of the Mars.

NASA sent their rovers, which found organic molecules  in the Mars.
The presence of Liquid water and Methane gas ,which are essential for the life in the Mars.
The presence of organic molecules results the birth of living organisms.

                         What is NASA?

NASA stands for National Aeronautics and Space AdministrationNASA is a U.S. government agency that is responsible for science and technology related to air and space.
The Space Age started in 1957 with the launch of the Soviet satellite Sputnik. NASA opened for business on Oct. 1, 1958.

                      Spacecraft Launched by NASA.

  • Mariner 3 was launched in 5 November 1964 by NASA,but this mission was failed.
  • Mariner 9 was launched in 30 May 1971 by NASA, this mission was Successful.
  • Viking 1 was launched in 20 August 1975 by NASA, that mission was Successful.
But NASA failed in its first attempt, but ISRO was successful in its first mission to Mars. If you find this article beneficial to you then don't forget to share with your friends.
