What is NASA?

NASA stands for National Aeronautics and Space Administration. NASA is a U.S. government agency that is responsible for science and technology related to air and space.
  

The Space Age started in 1957 with the launch of the Soviet satellite Sputnik. NASA opened for business on Oct. 1, 1958.

History of NASA

  1.  NASA the most revolutionary science program in history it has brought us from the stratosphere to the moon and has given information about the farthest reaches of our solar system in 1957.
  2. During the height of the Cold War the Soviet Union Lords the first artificial satellite into orbit prompting the Sputnik crisis, the United States responded gathering the best scientific minds and signing in the National Aeronautics and Space Act of 1958.
  3. This led to the creation of NASA and the beginning of the space race to the United States and its people winning the space race was the most important task yet the Soviets were the first to send a man into space.
  4.  While the United States were working on Project Mercury Alan Shepard and John Glenn were the first Americans in space and their mission was a complete success this project was a stepping stone for the Apollo missions soon to follow .
  5. But why some say the moon I choose this as our goal and they may we'll ask why climb the highest mountain why 35 years ago fly the Atlantic why does Rice play Texas we choose to go to the moon we choose to go to the moon we choose to go to the moon in this decade and do the other things not because they are easy but because they are hard in 1962.
  6.  President John F Kennedy promised the American people that they would be the first to the moon after four test missions in 1969 the Apollo 11 team successfully landed on the moon the whole world watched as Neil Armstrong uttered those famous words.
  7. After five more trips to the moon the United States and Soviet Union put their differences aside and on July 17th 1975.
  8. The Apollo command module docked with the Soyuz 19 effectively ending the space race and a large chapter in the Cold War the years to follow would introduce the space shuttle program which included more than 20 missions in the Hubble telescope in 1990 .
  9. Then in 1998 the nations of the world came together to form the International Space Station it has opened a new path for advances in science and technology and will for years to come in recent years.
  10. NASA has focused on sending space probes such as New Horizons and Juno giving us more information about the farthest reaches of our galaxy than ever thought possible even with the cancellation of project constellations in 2010 .
  11. They have developed further technology for manned missions in space NASA has also sent the Curiosity rover to Mars in an effort to learn about the surface and give us an idea of what humans may encounter in the years to come NASA was important in the 1960s and 1970s.
  12. And still is today it needs your support more than ever before without the imagination and Drive of young kids everywhere we will never achieve the greatness that lies ahead you .

NASA 2020

  1. NASA 2020 preparing artemis I for the moon test firing our powerful rocket planning commercial science missions to the moon prepping a rover to search for water on the moon.
  2. Developing our orbital outpost in lunar orbit trying out our next-generation spacesuit launching american astronauts from the US boeing and Space X launch from florida carrying astronauts to the International Space Station.
  3. Our home in orbit a unique lab for science preparing astronauts for longer journeys developing a low-earth orbit economy in the 20th consecutive year of humans in orbit exploring beyond the earth and moon.
  4. A new rover launches to mars carrying a helicopter and a new mission name grabbing a sample from an asteroid launching a new international mission to study the sun innovation for exploration an oxygen-generating experiment on mars.


The Story Of NASA’s “Forgotten Astronaut”


  • This image was taken out of the window of the Apollo 11 command module Columbia on July 21st 1969 with Earth in the Far background the famed lunar module carrying astronauts.  Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin returned to the Columbia after the pair became the first people to ever walk on the moon 
  • But there's another story here about something not in this image within this photo is every person alive on July 21st 1969 
  • All the billions of people on earth plus the two in there it shows the entirety of the human race well except for one the man who took this photo Michael Collins which seems fitting for a man who has been dubbed the loneliest man in the universe 
  • After the lunar module left for its famous descent command module pilot Michael Collins was left by himself orbiting the moon and not for an insignificant amount of time
  •  I'm sure everyone's familiar with Neil Armstrong's first steps and famous words at one call Phil Gramm bought by a free man but those were mere seconds of the 21 hours the duo spent on the moon and to make matters worse for a portion of Collins moon orbit his radio was completely cut off from both earth and his fellow astronauts for approximately 48 minutes every trip around the moon Collins was the most isolated man in human history more than 200,000 miles from Earth with no way of knowing what was happening.
     
  • No one to talk to no one to listen to his work was the only thing he could do and he tried to stay busy enough to keep away those bad thoughts that creep into one's head 
  • During solitude my designs were not but simply that something might go wrong with the lamb with the lunar model 
  • These two guys might get stuck on the surfaces moon that was my main concern we have a liftoff the idea that he would be the only person to come home from a three-person crew was a real possibility.
  • And one that he was both prepared for and terrified of orders were in place that if something should happen to the lunar module.
  • If it could not return to the Columbia Collins would return home alone President Nixon would make an announcement giving the message to the entire world 
  • As well as the two stranded astronauts who would be taking their last breaths on the surface of the Moon 
  • The speech which was actually written in case of disaster not sugar-coated it began quote Fatah's ordained that the men who went to the moon to explore in peace will stay on the moon to rest in peace these brave men 
  • Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin know that there is no hope for the recovery but as we know that didn't happen the Eagle landed and returned giant leaps were taken and Houston had no problem Michael Collins worst fears did not come true 
  • And all three landed back on earth safely but while both the first and second man to step on the moon became household names Michael Collins didn't he became the Forgotten astronaut.
  • Which he later expressed in numerous interviews in his own book was alright with him because he knew that even though his boots never touched alien soil he'd played an integral part of man's journey forward he was happy with the job he'd done he didn't want to be a celebrity.


10 Mind-Blowing Facts About NASA

  • There are no blueprints or roadmaps which clearly mark out the course the limits of the job are no less than the limits of the universe. 
  • The history and the scope of NASA one of the most important organizations of our time is truly mind-blowing.
  •  Let's take a closer look into as well as learned some interesting facts involving NASA or the National Aeronautics and Space Administration which is part of the United States government agency which conducts research involving outer space .
  • So let's begin with the facts NASA was created by President Dwight Eisenhower in 1958 in response to the Soviet Union's launch for the first artificial satellites .
  • The previous year the Americans called this the Sputnik crisis the crisis became such a big deal that it was actually one of the main reasons for the creation of NASA .
  • There have been two different NASA logos the meatball and the worm.

  • The meatball is original logo and also the current logo so-called because of the blue sphere representing the planets kind of looks like a meatball a little bit now in the 70s 
  • NASA decided that it needed a new logo to refresh the agency's image as forward-thinking and futuristic.
  • The new logo reflected this ideal and it just had the four letters NASA so simplified and stylized that even the cross strokes in the A's were removed and this was all in attempt to make the logo on a whole look more aerodynamic. 
  • The first human in space was a Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin in April 1961 followed by John Glenn who became the first American to circle the earth in a little mercury capsule in 1962.
  • Humans went to the moon in the year 1969 and the first space shuttle Columbia flew in 1881 those are some little interesting facts about NASA.
  • That I kind of just put into one heading okay well let's talk about women in space Sally Ride was the first American woman in space and since there have been many more but no other woman has ever walked on the moon.
  • On the shuttle era of NASA began in 1972 and the for those of you who are confused a Space Shuttle is a big wide space ship that looks like an airplane.
  • Space shuttle program anymore the program ended back in the year 2011 due to budget cuts and the last three shuttles. 
  • Atlantis and discovery are now museum pieces never to be flown again in the year 1991 space watch discovered an artificial body near Earth that has now been listed on NASA's astrophysics data system as a possible alien probe.
  • That was observed in the vicinity of our planet its orbit was supposed to bring it back somewhere around there Earth in the year 2016. 
  • Alright I got another fun and interesting fact regarding NASA so check it out there are these three men from Yemen who sued NASA for trespassing on Mars they claim that they inherited the planet from their ancestors 3,000 years ago.
  • But hey if they don't live up there how can you claim it in 2006 NASA admitted to having accidentally recorded over the original tapes of the moon landing. 
  • NASA wasn't the only group that was recording copies were found by CBS and Johnson Space Center and they're currently being restored there is also a team of NASA .
  • Scientists who have been pretending that they're on Mars they live and work in a dome on side of a Hawaiian Volcano and only go out in spacesuits.
  • All for researching what it would actually be like to live on Mars and the final fact I want to share with you is NASA has two satellites.
  • Chasing each other around the earth to track the distance between themselves to measure gravitational anomalies their nicknames are :Tom & Jerry
