Gods and Goddesses from myths and their powers are fascinating to read about. Even more amazing are the stories of mythical creatures, which could demolish and destroy with shiftless and precision. These beasts are sometimes a combination of two animals or a mixture of human and animals.

Basilisk


The Basilisk is part rooster and a part serpent and was feared creature in the legends of Europe. It is the king of snakes and can kill with a single glance. It scared other serpents and its breath burned other shrubs and grasses. Citizens of Basel in Switzerland, however, consider it to be a guardian.

Centaurs


Half man and half horse these popular creatures of Greek mythology are in general shown to be unruly a rude. The one exception to this rule is the Centaur named Chiron, who was friendly, kind, polite and a skilled musician. The popularity of centaurs has grown over centuries and they appear in mosaic drawings sculptures and even in fantasy films.

Werewolf


A werewolf is a human who willingly or unwillingly takes the shape of a wolf or a wolf like creature. It is found in European folklore and was first heard of in Switzerland during the medieval period. The mythical being could not be easily injured and healed itself quickly. It also moved at a super speed and was a terrible opponent to battle with.

Unicorn


The Unicorn can be seen in the tablets found in the Indus valley civilization. It also finds mentions in the Bible as well as in the Greek writings on the natural history. It is a horse or goat like creature with a long pointed spiraling horn on its head, cloven hooves and a beard. Its horn had healing powers and could change poisonous water into potable water. It is a sign of wildness, purity and grace.

Minotaur


Minotaur was the name of a mythical creature which guarded a labyrinth. It had the head of a bull with horns and the body of a man. In the story of Minotaur, the Greek architect Defaults created a labyrinth or a maze that was confusing that everyone lost his way in it. The Minotaur lived in the centre of the maze, and fought anyone who approached.

Mermaid


The Mermaid is an aquatic creature with the head and body of a woman .Instead of legs this creature has the tail of a fish .The Mermaid can breathe under water an are associated with floods, storms and ship wrecks. Sometimes they show kindness and give boon to the humans. Some stories tells us about the mermen who exists along with the mermaids in the deep seas. Although there is no scientific proof of the existence of mermaids ,people often claim have to seen on.Stories of mermaid are very popular  to this day.

Sphinx


The Sphinx was the ferocious guardian of a temple with the body of lion, the head of a human ,the wings of an eagle and the tail of a serpent. While the Greeks supposed it to be merciless to those who filed to solve its riddles, the Egyptians looked upon it as benevolent. There are references to the sphinx during the Bronze Age.
